WAX MUSEUM

Description

The wax museum of Barcelona is a private museum that contains a large collection of more than 200 hundred wax figures of real life and fictional characters. It receives about 200.000 visits yearly. It’s located in the former Bank of Barcelona headquarters, a building that dates back to 1867.

Located smack in the heart of Barcelona, to be more exact at number 7 Passeig de la Banca. To get there we walk down the boulevard of Las Ramblas keeping to the left. Though this narrow alleyway may appear to be a bit out of the way, the museum isn’t at all difficult to find since tickets are sold at a stand on Las Ramblas which is parallel to this street. Not far we are able to spot what is both a monument and viewpoint, tribute to Cristopher Columbus.

This wee shrine reproduces wax models of both historical and fictional characters. It even features a room of horrors that replicates torture scenes.

By the exit we’ll come across two cafes that draw quite some attention for their singular design. The one, “Bosc de les fadess” (Fairies’ forest), an enchanting and unique getaway inhabited by trees, gnomes and other unexpected creatures. The other, “Passatje del Temps” (Time Passage), cosy and vanguard, decorated in such way as to allow us to read the passing of time.
