PORT VELL

Description
The Port Vell (Old Port) is the oldest part of the Port of Barcelona. It is where the artificial port of Barcelona was born, boasting a long standing tradition more than 2000 years old. At present the facilities Port Vell is endowed with are especially intended for sports vessels both at the harbour and port of Barcelona.
Born at the feet of the Ramblas, Port Vell begins its course from the statue of Columbus and terminates in the Barceloneta. In this expanse recreational vessels and large cruise ships dock in the harbour. Here we may also observe one of the most luxurious and modern hotels in Barcelona, the W Hotel that poses at the far end of the port as the splendid and luminous construction it is.
On our stroll along the port we will also come across the Maregmagnum shopping centre, the Imax and the Aquarium. For those aficionados of sea life we may indulge in a visit to the Maritime museum el Pailebot Santa Eulalia, right next to the Columbus statue; all the same we may prolong our walk on to the famous walkway of the “Golondrinas” and embark on a brief cruise along the coastline of Barcelona, and witness in a new light from the sea the city glimmering.
Once reached the very end of the port and in proximity of La Barceloneta, we find ourselves standing at the wooden port only then to stumble upon the Palau del Mar and within explore one of the most visited museums in town, the Catalonia History Museum.
Undoubtedly, a place for those privileged few who can squeeze in the time to delight in a walk on the sea shore and admire no matter we rest our gaze the wonders this part of town has to offer.
