BARCELONA AQUARIUM

Description

The Barcelona Aquarium is located in Barcelona’s Port Vell, the world’s most important Mediterranean themed marine leisure and education centre, considered its set of 35 tanks, 11.000 specimen and 450 different species, its 80 metres long underwater tunnel, its six million litres of water and, last but not least, its immense Oceanarium, one of kind in Europe, endow this centre with a spectacle that is unique and a leisure time site that has been visited by 14 million people so far and counting.

Inaugurated on 8th September 1995, it has adopted state-of-the-art technology in order to offer as faithful a reproduction as possible of the specific environments it presents to us. The exhibits that compose it are: a journey through 21 aquariums that unveils the wonders of the various marine communities that inhabit the Mediterranean sea (among these the colossal Oceanarium) and the multi-coloured tropical seas; the Planet Aqua and Explora exhibit.

There are many more expositions to be found, cafeterias, shops, auditoriums and a number of additional services to avail of. The thrill of the visit for the pluckiest of its guests might even just the chance to dive in for a swim with the sharks.
